Halloweeen 01

scary, right?

We carved pumpkins this year, now that we're in a house.

Cardhu! 01

initially really sweet

Well, with a face like that, how could I not take him home?

(Nola took this one; I was still in sticker shock.)

on the rim of the world: 01

someone's meal

We went to Tofino for our honeymoon, and spend the days looking for rubbish and treasure on the beaches of Pacific Rim National Park.

Found a lot of both, actually.

Whistler & Points North: 01

temporarily bear-free

The week before we got married, we took a trip to Whistler with my mother and her good friend B—. On one lovely autumn day (okay, it was damp, cold and very overcast. lovely is as lovely does.), Nola and I hiked out around Lost Lake. This is one of the creeks that feeds it.

The saga of what all we went through to get here is recounted elsewhere; suffice it to say that we sat on the rocks for a bit to absorb the burbling of the rushing water, and count our blessings.

to do list: 01

1. sit on rock... check

Early October. To-do list still a yard long, with the wedding not two weeks in the future. So we decided to go over it while tramping through Lighthouse Park.

This is technically known as "playing hooky".

Autumn Ducks: 01

now, that's blue

Ducks in shade, using a really slow shutter and a polarizing filter. (Oh, yeah—we went by Reifel in late September, toward evening.)

On the Sunshine Coast: 01

no ducks, though

Last July, we took the ferry over to the Sunshine Coast and stayed with some friends in Gibsons for a couple of days. It was very peaceful, and much cooler than Vancouver. Took their dog for walkies in a nearby park, and I let my camera tag along.

very special flower

What with fall coming on and all, it's time for some flowers and ducks from our June visit to Reifel.

Pitt Lake: 01

pitt lake, beside the entry

May Day. Kinda cloudy. Pitt Lake, billed as "the only tidal freshwater lake in the world." An excellent birdwatching area, too. There's a long, low dyke that bisects the lake, creating a lakey part on one side and a marshy part on the other. This is the view of the marshy part.

We were there just for the walk and fresh air. The birds were a plus.
