Kelowna Trip, Day Four

Nola made scones for all, and after this & that, it was just me and Qwinn. We hung the extinguisher, got laundry going and hied us up the lane to pick raspberries. It was just like Little Women, except without so many petticoats and possibilities of movie rights.

Qwinn was deeply disappointed with me, as he'd thought this was to be a Real Walk. I had his leash, and a water bottle, since I wasn't sure just how far up I'd have to go (it turned out to be maybe twenty feet from the door) and when Qwinn saw me settling in around the bushes, he lay on the grass nearby with a decidedly disgruntled air of Dog Betrayed, Yet Forebearing.

The raspberry bushes were bordered by a bank of lavender bushes in full bloom, in which flitted bees. Lots and lots of bees. Their buzzing was a multi-toned, deep, constant hum. Watching them at work in the lavender was like looking into a lit aquarium, the sunlight filtered through the petals and leaves.

Came home with two boxes of berries. (Qwinn had long before decamped back to base.) Hung the laundry, ate lunch, then gathered dog, water bottle and leash. He didn't believe me until we'd gotten past the orchard and reached the road. We walked along Lake Shore Drive a ways, not a really nice walk, what with the traffic and sun, and returned quite overheated despite sharing the bottle to the dregs. Napping helped.

Then put together spaghetti sauce and meatballs and spent the rest of the afternoon reading and painting while that simmered. Kate & Nola back around six-ish, another fine supper on the lawn, then a tiny hike in another park up to a little knoll to watch the sun set. The sky turned salmon, reflecting in the lake, and we turned for home just before it got too dark to see.

Sat up late reading, and late waking up. Very dull day, and hope to have another just like it.
