Went to the bookstore today, while making rounds between drugstore, coffee shop and grocery store. I was looking for that book which Amity Wilczek (Nature is Profligate) recommended, Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to all Creation. Christine gave it an emphatic boost at Mirabilis.ca, so I thought I'd check the store on Davie before hiking down to Granville Books. After all, we needed coffee.
Did pretty well, on whole, even though I didn't find that book. Managed to walk out with only four, and none of which I already owned:
- Emergence: the Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software
- The Riddle of the Compass: the Invention that Changed the World
- Newton: the Making of Genius
and, finally, the latest Harry Potter. No sign of Changing Planes yet, though. Dammit.

I hope you do find and do get to enjoy Dr. Tatiana’s at some point. Will you be blogging your own book reviews based on your recent purchases? I’d love to hear more about “The Riddle of the Compass,” which has tempted me on recent bookstore visits.

I’ll be happy to post impressions of these– while hunting for a review of Compass I ran across a number of positive remarks on Aczel’s other books, which filled me with an immoderate level of book lust. They’re probably at Granville, too. This is all very bad for my bank account.
I can offer positive endorsements of the Dr. Tatiana book and the Harry Potter. The others sound interesting — I’d love to hear your thoughts on them.
