battleship lake on mt. washington

We drove up from Cumberland to the trailhead on Mt. Washington the day after the sheep dog trials, then hiked through what was billed as sub-alpine even higher. Battleship Lake is so-named not because it's home to a lonely remnant of Canada's navy, but because it's (sort of) shaped like a battleship. Personally, I think it looks more like the top of a paddle shaft, but I suppose I must be the only one. For sure, no Canadian would balk at naming a lake "Paddle Shaft".
We worked our way through the bramble tangles to a bare rocky bit on the shore, had a picnic lunch, and settled in with our sketchbooks. The sun kept going in and out of a little patch of clouds, which was kind of frustrating. This view is of part of a small island just fifty meters or so from shore.
