In Flanders Field, the poppies grow...
Today, as on the eleventh of November last year, and the year before, and the one before that, I saw poppies bloom from lapels everywhere, including my own. I saw flags flying, and parades, and heard speeches on the need to remember, not just what was, but why, and who was there.
So, thank you to all the veterans who sucked it up and went to war when called. And thank you also, to all the ones who, for reasons of conscience, spoke out against war and stood with empty hands in a field of arms. For all who make their choices in honour and act as their thought directs them remind me of the constant need to examine the choices before me, and to act in honour in my turn.
