tiger trial

UPDATE: That went well. The Pismo and the Tiger can be friends. Guess it's time to do the AlBook.

My old powerbook, a Pismo (G3, 500asif) has been sitting quietly in a hallway since January, waiting for us to get 'round to buying it a new battery. Which we've done, this last week, and I set about conditioning it. During which Software Update got all excited about upgrading the OS from 10.3.5 to 10.3.9, and as a matter of course, I clicked the 'go ahead' buttons.

error! error, will robinson! That's a Combo upgrade, and it pretty much chewed up several crucial functions, such as "shutdown" and "restart". Ate the built-in screensaver utility, too, not so crucial but still, um, clumsy.

I tried again, with a clean install of base OSX 10.3 from the box CDs, and had the same result from the Combo upgrade. There I've left it, while pondering going through whatever hoops might be necessary to source the incremental updates and installing them one by one... not a happy prospect. Especially if there's an alternative, like, say, 10.4, aka Tiger. The only question: Will Tiger run on a bog-standard Pismo?

It's a simple question, really. A 'yes/no' question. There should be but one answer to it, barring hacking.

I've found two.

Yes. And no.

Bugger research. I'm gonna just buy the thing and install it.
