Nola is back on her here–and–there schedule, so it’s just me, the dog, the cat, and some old Harry Potter movies.
The power went off today for a few hours. I called BC Hydro and was actually connected to a person. She said I should try cycling my main breaker to be sure it wasn’t just me. I hung up and did it, but all the time I was thinking, ”I’m on Gabriola, lady, trust me, it is not just me.” And when I finished the breaker cycling dance, and called back like I’d been told to do, I got the familiar recorded voice telling me how long they thought it would be before we re–entered the Industrial Age.
I have to say, their estimates are usually pretty good. Also, the cable stayed on, so once I had the gennie going, I was set for heat, water, coffee and internet.
So what did you get for Christmas, then? I got nummie treats from Mum, also new potholders to replace aging and possibly dangerous old potholders, a bread book from which I have tried two recipes so far, one came out picture perfect and the other tried to devour the kitchen and did cause the demise of a loved tea towel before finally submitting itself to the tender embrace of the oven. Nola gave me the book, and also a dvd of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean. Haven’t watched it yet; I’m waiting for her and also first we are watching Harry Potters, since I got her dvds of the last two, the Deathly Hallows ones.
Which is why I’m settled in this eve watching older Harrys out of the corner of my eye while writing weblog posts. I miss Nola. I find all sorts of ways to amuse myself when she’s not here, I get the chores done, the livestock is fed and petted, but I miss her. It was just lovely having her home for Christmas for so many days altogether.
Well, she will be back in a few days, and we will watch our Christmas shows, and run around the island with the dog… it’ll be fun!
